Car Insurance for Teen Drivers

It may be hard to believe when it finally happens, but, one day you wake up, and your child is now a driver - a teen driver. It can be hard to imagine your child behind the wheel - even a bit scary - but a good car insurance plan can help to put your mind at ease.
New drivers don't have the same experience as seasoned drivers, and in general they can be prone to mistakes and misjudgments. The odds are high that your teen could have a car accident in their first few years of driving. Therefore, it pays to invest in a high level of protection to keep them safe and avoid putting your family assets at risk.
Parent Teen Driving Contract
A Teen Driving contract can be a great way to reinforce responsibilities and create clear expectations between you and your teen. Our sample contract includes several key points such as friends in the car, speed limits, curfew, GPA requirement and more. The contract requires the teen to initial all these points, and also helps communicate the costs of driving to your teen.

Adding Your Teen to the Right Car Insurance Policy
Purchasing an auto insurance policy for your teen can be pricey if you aren’t sure where to begin. Before you start, know that adding your teen to your existing policy is often the most affordable option for your family. On average, you can save thousands per year when you combine coverage for everyone in the family. By adding your new driver to an existing policy you have more opportunities to qualify for discounts. Those discounts can help ease the cost of a teen driver taking to the open road.
Do your research before investing in car insurance coverage for your teen. We can help you look for different discounts that may be available including good student discounts, safe driving courses, telematics services, and even money saving factors to consider when looking to buy your teen that first car. The “bigger is better” philosophy misses out on many factors considered by insurance companies.
Benefits of Comprehensive Coverage for Teen Drivers
Car accidents are the leading cause of death for teens aged 16 to 19 in the US. Drivers who fall into that age group are 3 times as likely than drivers aged 20 or older to have a fatal crash. With such an increased accident risk, it makes sense that insurance costs for teens are much higher than other drivers. With a comprehensive car insurance policy, you can help protect your teens in the event of an accident and give your family peace of mind.
At ALINK Insurance, we can help. Whatever your needs if you are in Colorado Springs, Parker, Saratoga Springs or a host of other states, we can help put together a value based plan specific to your unique situation to balances coverage options with competitive prices.

Distracted Driving and your teen - it's not just cellphones!
Most anti-distraction campaigns feature someone texting from behind the wheel. But data from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System suggests that cellphone use is responsible for only 12% of fatalities caused by distracted driving. Phones may be the face of distraction but they’re hardly the only problem.
Distraction comes in many forms:
• the radio, car controls, GPS, looking at street signs, passengers, and unexpected moving objects
• walking and talking with someone else, listening to music, looking at a map
• smoking, eating and drinking.
Distraction isn’t a cellphone issue. It’s not even a driving issue, really. The real problem is our state of mind that allows us to become distracted in the first place.
